The Atapattam lantern model, produced in India, features a slight variation with slightly raised upper and lower square sections. In India, it is known as Diwali Lanterns or Akash Kundali, symbolizing the festive spirit of Diwali.

In Sri Lanka, the Atapattam lantern holds a special place, adorning the celebrations of Vesak and Poson Poha. Crafted using 24 reeds, six squares are intricately tied together to form their distinctive shape. The lantern is then adorned with paper and decorative elements, creating a visually stunning display.
