    “Pope Canyon Queens have been engaged in the natural selection of their queens for over 30 years within an isolated mating area. Our lineage stems from Carniolans; however, our breeding focus prioritizes high-quality standards over mere color variations. To enhance our gene pool and mitigate the risks of inbreeding, we introduce artificially inseminated breeders every three years, incorporating desirable traits.

    Our latest introduction involved Caucasian breeders, selected for their exceptional propolis production. Previously, we have also introduced breeders exhibiting Varroa Sensitive Hygiene (VSH) traits. Our bees exhibit behaviors characteristic of Carniolans, as we believe their sensitivity to environmental conditions and resource availability is essential for thriving in the harsh climate we face. They are prolific honey producers when resources are abundant, yet they adeptly conserve energy during periods of scarce forage, allowing them to reduce their population to as few as two to three frames of bees while still surviving and ultimately thriving when conditions improve.
